Hey IB students!
Welcome back to IBlieve’s first official newsletter of 2021! We’re changing things up by inviting new HSAs to write these welcome messages every week, so we can hear more student voices and IB experiences around the world. Today, we have peer encouragement from Lisa, a Year 1 student from Switzerland!🇨🇭
We hope you had a relaxed holiday and enjoyed spending time with your loved ones. Always make sure that during these overwhelming, chaotic moments, you take time to rewind and recharge.
A warm welcome to all our new Community Slack members and those who’ve joined the team. We’re beyond excited to be starting 2021 with this amazing IBlieve family. Remember that we’re always here for you, so don’t be afraid to ask for help. Lots of new projects and experiences are coming your way; we encourage you to join in on the action, learning, and fun. Stay tuned and look out for these opportunities.
Good luck to all of you starting school and thank you for being part of our precious IBlieve community. We believe in you!
Lots of love,

🎙Community Spotlights
This week, we’re super excited to be spotlighting IBlieve Community students who are launching inspiring projects and initiatives!
1. Quaranteened - Amelie, IB in Malaysia
Quaranteened is an anthology of creative works of expression by teenagers across the world. Through this work, Amelie aims to showcase the opinions and sentiments of youth on the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have created artwork, poetry, photography, prose, or any other pieces displaying the impact the virus has had on society, submit it!
2. Youth Engaged Life Leaders - Trina and Amanda, IB in the Philippines
Youth Engaged Life Leaders is a digital journalism project that aims to uplift the youth amidst the pandemic. There are many students who feel lost navigating through their online classes or simply their daily lives due to the events that have occurred this year. Thus, this project aims to raise awareness on global and day-to-day issues to understand how these current events affect society, particularly to our generation and the following generations.
🌍World News
In this section, we help you stay informed and engaged about issues close to your home and afar. We don’t just want to raise awareness; we want to equip you with actionable ways to help communities who are struggling. Note: These issues are brought to us by members of our community who are experiencing these realities.
“After Court OKs Trump Arctic Refuge Auction, Biden Urged to Immediately Ban Drilling on Public Lands” - Common Dreams
President-elect Joe Biden is facing pressure to keep true to his promise of a bold climate agenda after a federal judge stated that the Trump administration could move forward with a Wednesday auction of fossil fuel drilling leases for federally protected lands in Alaska.
The exploitation of the artic refuge would have detrimental effects on Gwich’in and Inupiat people (indigenous communities), not to mention over 300 species of animals including polar bears, seals, bears, and more. Over 19 million acres of land is at risk.
